The Effects of HLAW Parameters for One Side T-Joints in 15 mm Thickness Naval Steel

The present contribution is the first research reporting full penetration HLAW joints in 15 mm thick EH36 steel butt T-welds with square grooves on 2F welding position by single-sided welding. effects of parameters were investigated to increase quality joints. Conditions leading defect-free welds fulfilling naval regulations includes a laser power 12.5 kW, speed 1.6 m/min and vertical offset distance from flange 1 mm. Advanced characterization selected included microstructural identification optical microscopy, SEM, XRD, revealing presence acicular, polygonal Widmanstätten ferrite, lath martensite, some retained austenite at FZ. Hardness microhardness mapping tests showed values 155 HV base metal 200 380 fusion zone connecting web flange.
